William Optics Easy Touch Alt-Az Mount new
      #5934856 - 06/22/13 03:49 PM

I just received a used William Optics Easy Touch Alt-Az mount, the black one, and it is amazing!

First, for anyone still looking for a counter weight bar, the bar from a regular old EQ2 mount fits perfectly!

And now, just to cut to the chase, I just hung an ES AR-152 on it, balancing it using several counter weights I had hanging around. I estimate that, between the scope, diagonal, EP, and CWs, there was close to 60 lbs. hanging off of it. It easily handles that load, the Azimuth bearing moving at the lightest touch with absolutely no perceptible sticktion! Coupled with an Oberwerk wooden tripod, it seems to be a very stable, and capable mount for fairly heavy loads! If it remains clear tonight, I'll be taking it out under the stars to confirm that.

Only in that both are side-mounted Vixen saddles. After that, they diverge quite a bit! The EZT handles much heavier loads, can accommodate another mount plate to mount two scopes side by side, and tracks by simply moving the scope by hand from the eyepiece.

As for your AVX, have you thought about just doing a rough alignment of the RA axis on the celestial pole, and then just using it as a manual GEM? Unless you're doing AP from the back yard, all you really need for visual is a rough RA alignment, and let it track in RA. If the image drifts, just manually adjust the DEC axis using the hand control to bring it back in. Easy-peasy, and you won't have to sell it, nor buy another mount. Especially the EZ Touch, as it's no longer available new, and can only be found on the used market these days.

I have one of the original E Z Touch mounts that were made by AOK in Switzerland and were labeled as a W.O. EZ Touch.
I also have a TV Gibraltar/ Losmandy G11/ EQ-5/ AZ3, and an Orion Versa Go III.
The EZ Touch is without a doubt my most used mount.
I have used it with an Antares 152, as well as my TMB130, Orion 110ED, and a C8.
It's a great mount that has very smooth motions.
With a C8 and a Meade 6.7 UWA eyepiece at 298X it is still easy to track the planets due to the very smooth bearings.
One night I took my Antares 152 out to an observing site and forgot the counterweight.
The EZ Touch had no problems with the 18lb ota with out the counterweight.
In fact when just using my C8 or Orion 110ED F-7 I don't even bother with a counterweight anymore.
Mine has a Vixen sadle on one side and Losmandy saddle on the other side.
The EZ Touch is more stable and smoother than my TV Gibraltar.
If this mount was lost or stolen, I'd get another one without even thinking about it.
I just can't say enough good things about it.

Steve

From what I understand WO no longer sells this mount. Is this design available elsewhere (outside the used market)?

Thanks

dave

Thanks, Patrik. Maybe not the most convenient from here in the US, but probably doable. Thanks.

Why exclude used? I'm receiving a used WO Easy Touch this week and am curious.

I liked what I read regarding this mount. But if/when I decided to buy one, the used market is unpredictable - you just never know when one might come available.

So while I have no objection at all to a used mount, I simply have a question about availability and was looking to be sure that there is a source somewhere.

Interesting that you should bring that one up. I was just starting some research on Alt-Az options and one path was to go back a ways into the 'Mount Classifieds' here on CN. And that is exactly the ad that prompted this question (after doing some additional research).

However, I am a good bit of time from needing such a mount (assuming that this need ever arises - another story).
