Perseid heading for Andromeda new
      #6022821 - 08/13/13 12:43 PM

A night under the Perseids. Numerous bright and not so bright meteors so I decided to sketch one of the best ones I saw - really clear skies between 11.30pm and 2.00am and the Milky Way visible through Cassiopeia. The meteor broke up as it zipped towards Andromeda Galaxy (00:40 am) but (frustratingly) as I bent down to complete the sketch my pad was illuminated by a MUCH brighter one that left a smoking trail for a good 2 secs heading towards Pegasus (00:50 am). Doh!!

Still - a great show from Mother Nature...

Chris,

Very nice sketch. I like the way you make this clearly a meteor burning up irregularly as they often do.

Frank

Oh, just lovely Chris! I actually haven't seen many meteor sketches yet so yours is very original apart from beautiful.

Peter

Thanks everyone. Yes as Jef says I shall be able to look back at this one but now look forward to the 2016 showing since it may be a peak year?

That is just awesome....love the way you got it to actually look like a meteor zipping by!

kauf,

A rather straightforward approach. I sketch then scan it into Photoshop CS4 and embellish this using various layers (stars, meteor head, coma etc). For example the meteor trail is erased and/or brightened in parts to create the effect of motion and particle sparks I noticed.
