Great Lakes Star Gaze will be held Sep. 5-8, 2013

...not having seen a CN post about it....
Great Lakes Star Gaze
Location and dark skies are the main attraction of this star party. Gladwin, MI is a central location that provides excellent observing without traveling hours into Northern Michigan. Limiting magnitudes are estimated to be around 6.5 at zenith with some minor light domes from the cities of Mt. Pleasant and Midland, some 30 miles away. This is a star party for the astronomer who loves to observe and mingle with other astronomers. Some practical and interesting talks are scheduled to enhance your weekend experience.

I'll be there, the loud one during the day smokin' Cuban cigars. Stop by the pavilion building in the campground and ask for Steven. That area is inhabited by The Bottom Feeders, aka some great Michigan Astronomers.

See you there.
Steven

I'm hoping to make one night, either Thursday or Friday depending on which night has the better forecast. Only one day is because I need to be at work Friday after noon until 7 PM. My partner is a high school football referee.

It's a really nice laid back star party. One highlight I remember from both times I've gone were a few awesome rocket launches in the field next door. Oh, and the one time winning a 13 Ethos as a door prize. Raffle ticket picked by the esteemed Mr. Tom Trusock!

Last year I won the red with white letters "River Valley RV Park" sweatshirt. When I washed it it became an all pink sweatshirt... But still was better than nothing...

Ok, and now for the random question of the day...

Who, of those going to GLSG, may have experience with the software title Canopus, for astrometry and photometry, and, that they may also give me a tutorial on it?

Thanks, Steven

One thing to see on the final Sunday morning of GLSG is Mars passing in front of M44; The Beehive Cluster. Early in the AM it will be well placed.

The highlight, of the entire star party; FIREBALL

Note the magnitude numbers. It was awesome. The night at the time had thin clouds and it lit them up like a light-pipe. Those facing the correct way saw it directly, but it was such a vividly bright green. The previous night I saw another green meteor though dimmer at ~-4.
