Hypertuned CGE will be overkill for Televue 76? new
      #6044199 - 08/24/13 08:44 PM

I had sent 10 years old CGE for Hypertuneup service by Ed Thomas

It will be much better mount after return.

I consider putting just 5 lb Televue 76 on Hypertuned CGE for AP with SBIG 8300M and SVX 7 color filter wheels.

Will that be overkill?

Another option is to piggyback Televue 76 on top of C11 with CGE mount.

Then I may switch between Televue 76 and C11 for guiding job.

For AP with Televue 76, C11 will be big guide scope.

For AP with combination of C11 and 0.5 Telecompressor, Televue will be a quite good guide scope.

Will the second option make more sense to you, gentlemen?

Thomas

It's more than you need, but that doesn't mean it won't work great, and for imaging, more mount than you need is better than needing more mount.

Just keep in mind you will need a small counterweight if you're just going to use the televue 76. A 50mm guidescope should work fine.

I quite often use just my 300mm camera lens and 50mm guide-scope on my CI-700 with no scope. Other then needing a smaller counterweigh there is *no* problem doing that and works great for AP!

(CI-700 is similar in mechanical design to the CGE, it is an earlier mount, sorta a proto-CGE)

I don't think the c11 would be a particularly good guide scope in this case. The lightly loaded mount should image with authority.

Thanks a lot for your valuable opinion Gentlemen; Eddgie, Corpusse, Falcon, Rish.

The consensus is just to use smaller guidescope with Televue 76 on CGE.

I had already found out hat I need a smaller counterweight just before sending CGE for Hypertune.

Is there smaller CW being sold for CGE shaft separately?

I have to find out.

I will expect to get good picture with the combination.

By the way I also have SBIG 2000 XCM color CCD which has a self guiding chip.

Then Televue without any guide scope will be mounted on CGE,

Thomas

Losmandy makes both a 7lb and 11lb counterweight that fits the CGE. I. Have one of each and they work great.

It is nice to meet you Wade here.

I will find out whether the Losmandy 5 or 7 LB available in Anacortes Telescope.

Another option is to order through the Astronomics.com

Thomas
