Need an inexpensive mount for Meade DS-2000 series
      #6049009 - 08/27/13 02:43 PM

Hi,

I have a Meade DS2000 series refractor scope that my 5yr old daughter uses. The single-arm mount that holds it is completely stripped and is very difficult to move around. She doesn't need the GoTo features or anything. She already knows a few of the planets and some stars by sight and just wants to be able to swing the scope around and look at things. Is there a cheap mount that would work to hold a 2.5 - 3.5 " OTA? The tripod is fine, but if a new mount/tripod isn't too much, I can do that also.
I'm not going to spend too much since this was a free scope and as she gets older I'll be upgrading anyway.
Thanks!

This mount was suggested in another post for a similar situation.

Celestron 93610 alt/az 60usd. 67 at adorama.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004KM82LI/ref=s9_dcbhrz_bw_d0_g421_ir01_sh

You will need tube rings and maybe an adapter plate for the mount.

Edit: from Celestron site:
The most common dovetail bar size in the telescope market is the Vixen-style bar, which is 1-3/4” wide. This is the size used with the dovetail clamp on the Advanced GT (CG-5) mount. It is also used with the LCM, SLT, SE and Allview mounts, with the AstroMaster and SkyProdigy series telescopes and the AstroMaster tripod.

Hope this info may help...

Good viewing,

Dave

Thanks Dave,

That looks perfect, but I'm finding tube rings to be very expensive unless I'm just not looking in the right places ...

You may expect to spend around 50 additional. Say 20usd for a dovetail bar and 25 for rings +/-

Dovetail bar example: part EQBC 19usd

also check meridian 13in EQ5DTB

Tube rings ex:

Shop around the internet warehouses...

Dave
