Here is a quick shot of the Moon/Venus with a jet from last night.
It was quite hazy.

Thanks Stacy!

Nice catch Ron!

It was bitterly cold in Winthrop but is always a great place to spend time. Got some pictures but still have a lot of work to do on them. Saturday Night was looking pretty grim for a while. A few clouds and Very Very cold with a Breeze(Did I happen to say that is was cold!!!) And then there was a slight glow on the Horizon...

The weekend was good! I ended up imaging from the Skagit river wildlife area on Friday, then near Lake Goodwin on Saturday (until clouds rolled in). I had to head out again on Sunday to finish collecting RGB data. The data wasn't the best but I managed to capture M81&m82. Here is a sneak preview. I still have to add Ha.

I like the "skyglow" a lot, and that is doubtless the coolest 81/82 image I've ever seen! I'll be looking for the +Ha final version.

Amazing! Think anybody lives there? They are probably imaging the MW going on about their RGB on "Q45" as I am sure most alien last names start with "Q".

Thanks! Here is the HARGB version.
I had to do a very aggressive stretch to bring out the IFN. I also made a mistake when I calibrated the color...corrected now but I think it needs more work.

That's really gorgeous, Andy. I had no idea there was so much diffuse nebulosity in that area.

Thanks everyone! I want to add 15 or 20 hr of LRGB to clean it up and make it really pop. But that will be a project for the spring.
On a different note this weekend isn't looking so good.

"On a different note this weekend isn't looking so good."

This is the time of year when I adjust my expectations to the season. I'm actually looking forward to a great weekend. Tonight I'll continue an ongoing Civ game with my buddy in Huntsville, AL. Tomorrow afternoon Brian Bowers is playing at the Tacoma Public Library. Tomorrow night friends do their annual Christmas party. Seahawks Sunday. Good weekend!

It's been astro equipment maintenance weekend here in Spacedburg.

Yesterday I decided to assemble Sugaree in anticipation of Jupiter opportunities. Turned out I hadn't sealed it very well from its dusty environment. (SweetAnne builds ukeleles in what was once my car's half of the garage). Primary was really dusty. Let's see what the leafblower can do about that! Well, what it can do is blow condensation on the mirror. So I gave it an overdue bath. Lookin' good!

And today I took a couple of well-spent hours cleaning all my eyepieces.

Bring on Jupiter!

Yeah, and she's really getting good. She just finished #5. Each improves over earlier ones and "flaws" are getting really hard to see -- tiny bits of "fill" in joints here and there. She hand-selects tone woods and uses established construction techniques. They sound terrific.

Edit - The pudding:

She makes everything except the tuners, fret wire, strings & nut. (She cuts the frets from the wire and bevels the edges.) She's made nuts but bought these; she says she'll start making them again when she gets her "nut file." I thought she already had one, in which I was the first member.
