AstroAssembly 2013 North Scituate, RI
      #6058775 - 09/02/13 07:44 AM

Every year, since 1950, our organization has hosted "Astro-Assembly", a convention of amateur and professional astronomers from the New England area, held at Seagrave Memorial Observatory, in N. Scituate, RI. This year, Astro-Assembly will be held on Friday night, October 4th and all day Saturday, October 5, 2013.

Our Friday evening program of talks consists of a variety of topics, ranging from astro-photography, personal observatories, telescope making, astronomical history, and amateur astronomical research projects.

We are looking for speakers interested in providing a short talk (10 to 20 mins) for our Friday evening program. If anyone in your organization is interested in presenting a short talk, please contact me with a title and description of the talk, the length of the presentation, and also your audio/visual needs.

Our Saturday program of speakers, exhibits, solar observing, and an astrophotography competition runs all day, followed by an evening banquet and featured speaker, Dr. Mario Motta.

Our oldest telescope is an 8.25" Alvan Clark refractor, built in 1878, fully restored and complete with a weight driven drive. The club also owns several other telescopes, a 12" f8 Newtonian, circa 1925, as well as 12" and 16" Meade Cassegrains, mounted in roll-off roof observatories.

We hope that you will attend this year's AstroAssembly. Come and enjoy a wonderful fall day with the camaraderie of your fellow astronomers. Many of our guests have been attending AstroAssembly for decades!
