iridium questions new
      #6065291 - 09/05/13 10:02 PM

9-14-13 While looking for iridium 84 @ 16:59:49 I saw a bright object starting near the sun but I was really confused by its apparent motion across the sky. What I saw moved west to east. I had looked up a sky map on the Heavens above website and it showed a south to north track.

Any ideas what I saw?
Was the map wrong?

And tonight while looking at a pair of Iridium satellite flares I saw something else unusual.

9-5-13 from 38.03N 84.44W @ 21:31:50
After observing iridium 94 and 23 I saw another light much brighter and shorter in duration travelling in the opposite direction. It was extremely short lived but did not move as fast as a typical shooting star. It was very brilliant blue white.
Are you aware of any other objects in that area of the sky at that time?

What did I see?

Thanks,

Ben

I can check the software tomorrow to get some specifics. The bright blue object moving in the opposite direction was faster than a satellite but slower than a shooting star?

It was only slightly faster than the iridium satellites (which were super cool).

After running some simulations I think what you saw was an SL-14 Rocket Body. The motion and direction matches what you are describing.
