Which video capture program is best for imaging the Sun in Windows? Thanks. Jim

That depends on which camera you're using. Many imagers use FireCapture.

Yes, FC seems to be the preferred one for many cameras now. I use for both my PGR and ZWO ASI.

Firecapture is pretty versitile, working with a number of camera's and models. If I was just using my Imaging Source DMK I'd stick to the IC Capture software that came with it---I havent seen any other capture program that handles the DMK camera's better in terms of your capture settings and adjustments (at least for the sun).

Hmm, I always thought IC Capture was the worst thing about the IS cameras.
I always had problems with it and so did others I know who used it.
I tried a number of programs and finally settled on Firecapture. It's been excellent in all ways.

I use FC with my Flea3 PGR camera. However the problem is that the FC can't connect to the camera properly every time I do this. If to use a 16bit mode - no problem at all. However with 8bit mode the FC just can't work and the frame rate jumps randomly from 1-2fps to 20fps.
And to work in more economy mode (with 8 bit) I need to switch between Fire Capture and native camera's Fly Capture several time till the Fire capture randomly starts to see the camera properly in the 8 bit mode. Sometime this is a question of few minutes, sometime too long and I finally decide to work in a 16 bit mode.

Other than this, FC has no real issues and it is very easy to use software.

Valery.

On the contrary, I've been using IC Capture for several years & find it works well ... FireCapture I found unreliable on the odd occasion I got it to do anything useful, but the worst feature by far was the user interface which seemed determined to prevent me from controlling the camera properly.

This probably depends on your hardware & software setup. I'm using an Asus eeepc which has had memory upgrade & HD replaced with a SSD, running Win XP SP 3, which has NEVER been connected to any network (file transfer to/from is by USB stick drive to a linux system).

FireCapture has gotten better over the years.

Point Grey's FlyCapture has also gotten better over the years.

I haven't noticed any changes in IC Capture, but as you say, it just plain works.
