I'm thinking about the Questar 7 new
      #6006370 - 08/04/13 06:07 PM

Me thinks it's the ultimate telescope in quality, value, and portability. I sure love my 3.5" so I'm dreaming of the 7

Unless you find a preowned one, your looking at about a two year wait from time of order.

WOW! that is amazing about the 2 year wait but I was planning on a preowned one probably through eBay.

I personally would not trust Ebay for a scope of this price. In my opinion Astromart or CN own classifieds would be a better bet. You will find one listed on Astromart once in a while.

Hey, Colchester used to be my neck of the woods for over a dozen years! Really miss New England.

Good luck on your quest mvw. Good deals are out there. Lots and lots of searching though. I picked up both of these on separate online auction house sites within the last 4 months. Both are pristine and in both cases I had the seller send lots of photos before the auction started. The Q7 is 1990 vintage with pyrex mirror and standard coatings with two Brandon eyepieces, both original cases and solar filter. Shipped to my door for an unbelievable $2,100 (an absolute steal). The Q3.5 is 1971 vintage with Cervit and BB coatings, case, two Brandons, legs, full aperature solar filter/case, keys, etc for an even better deal. Both deliver incredible views for their respective sizes. The Q7 does take some time to acclimate though but once it does.........WOW !!!!

Here's a little taste of the size contrast you can expect. The table is 5' long mind you. The Q7 in this configuration tips the scales at a whopping 55 lbs!! Better start working out now so when you find one you'll be ready.

You did good Scott !

The mystic purple anodizing is gorgeous, wish I could have had that option when ordering ours. Although the star charts are standard on both the Q7 and 3.5" model, I preferred an unadorned finish on a Q7. The size contrast in your photo makes the 3.5"" Q look smaller than I remember? It's been almost thirty years since I last observed through one, but recently I was also able to purchased a 1971 model, and from a reputable member here on CN. Its blue in keeping with our Q7 but comes with the star charts, which my Wife likes. We are looking forward to our trip back to California soon, for the clear skies, and to pick up the 3.5" from my friend who it was delivered to for safe keeping. It will be interesting to compare our two when we have them together.

Enjoy your Questars Scott, and Clear Skies.

I was wondering if you had returned yet to try out the Q3.5.

Hi Steve,

Just a few weeks away. I've got the section of our retaining walls with the raised sun/observation deck almost complete.

Think about ordering through the good folks who sponsor this site. That's how I got mine. I'm proud, proud, proud. And glad I did, did, did.

With an instrument of this quality and "individuality" (really-Q7's are almost literally custom made), you want factory support for this kind of money.

And Questar will support you! You will never be sorry. Their guarantee is exactly that. E-Bay? Wow.... Talk to the folks who support this site.

A Q7 OTA with accessories was just posted for sale on the "Questar Users Group" (at yahoo groups), asking price seems reasonable.

It's a rare occasion when a fully mounted Q7 or OTA come up for sale. If reasonably priced, you have to act quickly as they sell fast, don't let PayPal be a limitation. Good luck with your search, it took 26 years to fulfill my Questar dream.

Could you tell us a little about your 3.5" Questar, and how you have it mounted ? It would be nice if you could post some photos.

Nothing much to say except it is a standard Questar 3.5 and I did put a photo in the Questar gallery.

It's a very nice unit but I'm looking for one upon the Questar mount plus I buy only through PayPal online.
