Why is this one expensive? new
      #6077603 - 09/12/13 07:00 PM Attachment (18 downloads)

Hi:

I got carried away and paid more than I wanted to in bidding on this one. I did not expect it to go as high as it did. I am wondering why you think it is so desirable. Or perhaps it isn't Is it the "rare" melting lip, or nice crust or nice round specimen. Do you see the lip in the pictures. I am not sure where it is. Maybe on the bottom? Thanks.

Gao Guenie with fresh fusion crust and a rare fine melting lip. 2.0 grams.

Thanks. I liked the picture too. I don't have it yet but the shape looks nice even if small. Not many bid on it and I thought it would just be an extra one to add on to another few I was buying from Germany but someone bid a lot and must have really wanted it.

I can maybe see a bit of the lip at the bottom right edge on the first pic. If the lip was referenced in the description, it would have been nice to see a good pic of it. Nice fusion crust usually brings a higher price, as well as orientation. Flow lines are always a plus. It appears that a section of fusion crust ablated away, and then had sufficient time to reform. Nice piece!

Thanks Lee. I think you are right about the lip. I wonder if I will be able to see it without a magnifying glass. Yes he should have had a pic of the bottom too. I hope I am pleasantly surprised once I see the rock.

I like a 10X loupe for small stones. It can bring out detail you'd never otherwise see, like fine low lines.

Good idea Lee. I happen to have a good quality one I don't use all that often. I'll have to give it a try.
