How do I sync CGEM to Stellarium.
      #6084706 - 09/16/13 08:44 PM

Hi All. This is the first question I've posted, so sorry if it's a bit dumb. I use a CGEM and have used CDC to control it. After doing the 2+4 alignment, I use CDC to send it to a target. Usually it's a little off but then I use the HC to center the target and then press sync in CDC. Then all is well. I have recently used Stellarium to do the same thing but I can't figure out how to sync the program with the mount. Any help would be much appreciated. C'S', Tony.

Hi Tony,

To slew the telescope to the currently selected object, press the control button and the number of the telescope (typically #1). Works great for me.

For further reference on Stellarium plugin, check out:

Regards,
John

Hi John. Thanks for the reply. I don't think I expressed myself clearly enough.
I understand how to send the mount to the target, (as you explained, press control and number 1).
The problem is that when Stellariums "telescope position marker" reaches the target on the screen, the target is not quite in the scopes eyepiece. At that point, you pick up the Mounts Hand Control and center the object in the scopes eyepiece. Once you've done that, if you look back at the screen, you will see that Stellarium's "telescope position marker" has moved off the target.
In CDC there is a sync button. You press it and it moves CDC's on screen "telescope position marker", back to the target, where the scope is now pointing. Once synced, both scope and the programs "telescope position marker", are pointed at the same place in the sky. All subsequent commands from the CDC program put the target in the eyepiece of the scope.
I can't find a similar sync feature in Stellarium.

To make the cursor on the screen agree with the telescope's position, you must sync the software (not the hand control). I know you can do this in Stellarium using the Stellarium Scope add-on. Not sure if you can do it using the built in direct connection scope drivers.

Thanks for the help Uncle Rod, John. I'll give it another try.
C'S', Tony.

Hi Tony,

Sorry the mis-understanding on my part. I haven't seen the sync command option with the default scope plugin. I'll have to checkout the StellariumScope add-on that Rod mention.

Tony, thanks for asking the question.
Rod, thanks for the solution.

If you install "Stellarium Scope" and have the ASCOM platform and appropriate ASCOM driver installed, you can then use ASCOM through Stellarium Scope and Stellarium to slew and Synch your mount. You must select your mount type when connecting in Stellarium Scope. I don't know if the CGEM is supported. The Atlas is. You will have to see if you have the CGEM option or just try the different selctions.
Use Control 1 to slew and Control 3 to sync.

Thanks for looking into it for me John. I'll give it a go as soon as I get the time.
C'S', Tony.
