Messier audio descriptions? new
      #6085814 - 09/17/13 11:57 AM

I am doing an outreach event in 2 weeks, there will be between 400 and 700 people looking through my scope. It gets very tiresome telling each person what the object is.
Are there any downloadable audio files for Messier objects so I can just hit repeat on the laptop and let the object/description play while folks are in line?

Meade had this, but it came with a goto system.

This seems pretty interesting too:

and this one may be what you're looking for:

I just did a google search for "Messier Object Video"

Celestron's SkyScout has very nice and succinct Audio of the the major DSO's, Constellations, and Stars. I've heard some of the Meade astronomer inside and didn't care for most of the narration style and content. You can load Google Earth for desktop, select Sky, and Celestron provides the same audio clips (look for the logo). You'll need internet access though. (quick tip, inside Google Earth program, you can uncheck all the sky database points except SkyScout and Imagery to reduce the clutter).

If you are having 700 viewers you had better wear some comfortable shoes. You will be there for quite some time.
