Celestar C8 on a GPS fork new
      #6092346 - 09/20/13 07:16 PM

Has anyone gone the other way? Attaching a deforked C8 from an old wedgepod and putting it on a NextStar GPS8 Fork? Easy? Hard? need brackets ?

Al

Have done similar with a CPC11 skeleton.
Using a bracket was the most versatile for my situation, but an 8" Celestron is about the widest OTA that will fit.
OTOH the bracket vertical centering is adjustable, so have also used this mount with 4 and 5 inch refractors, and my solar scope.

Best,
Ed L.

Ugh...

Does not look easy... may not be worth the hassle...

Thanks

I did this a few years back with a Super C8+ OTA. You just need to drill holes in the OTA for the fork's screws, but it's not a huge job.

Ak, do you still have the old CeleStar forks? If so you can make some modifications. The wedgepod that came with the standard CeleStar was a real pain to polar align. That said I modified mine so I could make minor adjustments in altitude as we'll as a way to level the tripod. Checkout my web site( http://www.siriusastronomy.org/aboutme_Equip_Mods.htm) for more info.

In the end though I bought a used heavy duty field tripod.

Good luck!
-Mike

My dream is some day to put and Celestron edge on my NSGPS 8 mount.

I have owned both and (in many ways), IMHO, the NSGPS mount is far superior to the CPC mount.

Maybe in a few years when they come down in price in the used market....
