Anyone know how to make use of the camera port on the ETX series? I want to attach an extra eyepiece, but don't want to spend extra on the specially designed Meade gear.

Gday ???

You need something like
https://www.astronomics.com/meade-etx-sct-thread-back-cell-adapter_p11924.aspx
and then any std 2" fittings can be used.

You will need the t-thread adapter that threads onto the port then this
http://www.telescopes.com/telescope-accessories/adapters/reducer2inchto125inc...

Or there is a 1.25" adapter that screws directly on. They really not that usefull as you will lose a lot of you fov at zenith in alt\az mode or lose the view around polaris in polar mode due to the lack of clearance.

Anyone know of any good DIY case options for the ETX 80? I'm thinking of buying a Stanley tool box and lining it with foam, but if anyone has any better ides, let me know.

I have a carry on duffel that the scope just fits (length wise) with a couple inches to spare. I wrap the scope in a beach towel for protection, leaving it bunched up a bit on either side. It's worked well.
