Sequence Generator 2.2 - Image Capture Suite! new
      #5992980 - 07/27/13 01:00 PM

Sequence Generator Pro Image Capture Suite v2.2 is Released!

Sequence Generator is a powerful image capture suite that supports equipment profiling for easy sequence generation, powerful event sequencing, auto focus, automatic precision target centering, click-to-center, automatic meridian flipping (using PHD) and hundreds of other features.

To find out more visit our site at www.mainsequencesoftware.com

We are happy to announce the official release of Sequence Generator Pro 2.2. Many of the features you have come to know and love remain unchanged, but we have added some exciting new ones.

Summary of 2.2 Features (details below):

- Framing and Mosaic Wizard (addon). Plan complex mosaics in mere minutes.
- Nikon support
- User managed licensing system
- ASCOM Rotator support (automatic in-sequence rotation per target)
- Target imports from AstroPlanner and StarryNight
- Ideal exposure time calculations
- Sequence images (associate and save reference images with your sequence)
- New target options for copying events to and from other targets
- Support for TEMPerHUM devices

Self Managed Licensing System:

Each SGPro license purchased allows you to use the software on up to 3 personally owned machines. The new licensing system will allow you to manage these licenses any way you see fit. Simply log in to our website and add or remove machines you wish to use with SGPro.

Support for Virtual Machines:

SGPro is now compatible with virtual machines like Parallels or Fusion for Mac (i.e. a Windows operating system running within a different host system like Mac or Linux).

Framing and Mosaic Wizard:

Originally just called the "Mosaic Wizard" we have renamed the add-on to reflect the fact that we have actually used it more times to obtain the proper camera angle for a single frame sequence than for mosaics. Because of this, we have renamed it the "Framing and Mosaic Wizard". With this feature, you can plan very complex mosaic sequences with very little effort. Simply grab the area of the sky you are interested in (the mosaic canvas), draw a rectangle over the area of interest and click a single button. SGPro will do all the hard work for you and create a sequence ready for the capture of your target! This wizard is an SGPro addon and can be purchased here: http://www.mainsequencesoftware.com/Store

Support for Nikon Cameras:

We are happy to announce support for the following Nikon cameras: D200, D3, D3S, D3X, D300, D300S, D4, D40, D5000, D5100, D5200, D60, D600, D700, D7000, D7100, D80, D800/D800E, D90. Most Nikon cameras will need a shoestring USB shutter adapter. These models should function fine with no additional accessories: D7100, D5200, D600, D800, D800E.

Rotator Support and Automatic Camera Rotation:

Sequence Generator Pro now supports general use of ASCOM compliant camera rotators. You can now connect and alter the positional angle of rotators through the control panel or the provided snap-in module. In addition to mechanical rotators, we have added the notion of a "Manual Rotator". This is particularly useful if a particular target requires a fairly precise camera angle for proper framing. For instance, if you need your camera rotation as 34 degrees, you can choose and new target setting option that will automatically attempt to rotate your camera to the required angle. If you are using a mechanical rotator, SGPro will simply rotate and verify the angle, but if you are using the Manual Rotator, SGPro will provide a series of concise instructions when the target starts and will help you get your camera where it needs to be.

Ideal Exposure Time:

There is a new line in the image statistics module labeled "Ideal Exposure Time". This metric will determine the ideal exposure time required in order to overwhelm read noise of the CCD by the sky background (http://www.hiddenloft.com/notes/SubExposures.pdf). If you specify your camera's gain (e-/ADU) and readout noise (e-) in the camera tab, this metric will be automatically calculated and presented. In our experience, this is a handy metric and works well for most imaging. For narrowband filters, we have seen these equations produce extremely high ideal sub-exposure times... Both camera gain and readout noise values can be entered into the camera tab and saved with a profile. If these values are not present in your camera's documentation, you will need to consult with the manufacturer.

Note: This equation / metric assumes that no more than 5% of your total noise will be from readout noise.

Sequence Images:

You can now associate JPG images with your sequence (will likely expand this with other image types later). These can be anything you want... a reference image, somebody else's image, a picture of your dog. You can access the sequence image manager through the new "Sequence" menu. Any images here will be automatically be opened when the sequence is opened. This feature is most helpful for saving your working mosaic canvas as a point of reference (at the moment).

New Target Options:

We have added several new options to the target context menu (right clicking a target). Namely, you can import image events from another target or you can export the current target's events to many other targets. This is especially handy when creating mosaics. With this feature you can create image events on the first target and then just copy them to all the other mosaic tiles in mere seconds.

Importing Targets:

You can now import targets from Starry Night or AstroPlanner. If you like to create observing lists using these applications, you can now import them (including location) directly into SGPro as targets (this feature can be found in the File menu).

Support for TEMPerHUM:

Sequence Geneator Pro now supports TEMPerHUM devices. If you own one (~$20), you can open a new display window that will show you temperature, dew point and relative humidity over time. In addition, you can use TEMPerHUM temperature input to control auto focus triggers. Many focus controllers do not have a built in thermometer and this is an easy (and cheap) way to add temperature based auto focus triggers to your rig.

Other Changes:

- Several sequence based menu items like "Reset Sequence" have been moved to a new sequence menu (from the "Tools" menu).
- Removed per-Binning Plate Solve Settings. You now specify plate solve parameters like scale and angle in the camera tab. You still specify exposure length and binning for solve frames in the plate solve tab.
- Removed camera offset. None of the cameras we support actually allow SGPro to change offset. This was just taking up room and has been removed.
- You can now specify star magnitude in Pinpoint searches (this will help with wide field solves)
- New file naming token %fz that will insert frame numbers with leading zeros (i.e. 0001 or 0012)
- Better support for regional differences (especially if you use a ',' as your decimal separator)

As always you can find it here:

Just a quick update as we near the first maintenance release for version 2.2. A few details:

New Features

- Image browsing feature added. This lets you look through the past 25 images taken. It works like an internet browser... back takes you to previous images and forward takes you to more recent images. Right clicking an arrow shows you a list of the past images... the left margin indicates which image is currently displayed.
- A new Image History tool has been added. This tool will display a graph of image metrics that have been recently captured. The intent is to show trends in HFR and Star Counts over time and then, if needed, adjust and mark images as bad. This tool also has a corresponding docking module that will give you a more convenient view. To open the corresponding image for a particular point on the graph, simply click on the graph. Right click on these same points for more options (like clearing).
- Rotate image 180 degrees added to the image toolbar
- Mark bad button added (X button) to the image toolbar... you can also do this by right clicking (this will prepend "BAD_" to your file name)

Improvements

- Dates have been removed from target start and end times. All end times are now in the future. Start times will be in the future if the time is less than 12 hours distant, otherwise it will be considered in the past and sequence will start.
- The Mosaic Wizard now allows for offline access to previously downloaded images.
- SBIG cameras now support fast download (currently only the STF line)
- Image toolbar buttons are now organized by function... from left to right: image browsing, zooming, rotation, misc tools
- All dialogs now respond to ENTER and ESC keys as per the Windows standard
- All numeric controls will now select the value when you tab or click into them

Fixes

- Internationalization issues for the mosaic wizard have been resolved
- Fixed a bug where image grader would crash when loading files (hopefully)
- Fixed an issue where subframes for the SBIG STF line were broken

I'm currently evaluating your product as a replacement for Maxim DL 5. Your manual and tutorials are great for showcasing the software's features, but what I really need is a simple, concise, easy to follow tutorial that takes me from initial set up to arbitrary target acquisition, framing/centering/focusing, and triggering a sequence of exposures to capture it. I understand the use of plate solving tools, but what I see in your manuals seems to indicate the need of a previously obtained image to acquire my target. This is a luxury I do not often enjoy.

So a tutorial aimed at the mobile imager would be sincerely appreciated. BTW, most of my projects are LRGB images based on a QSI 683wsg attached to an SV 130 EDT mounter on an AP Mach1 GTO.

Thanks.

Ken,

Does this ever go on sale or get discounted at times?
