Yeah concrete block doesn't need any siding.

He's being funny . No, it's all relatively expensive. I used tongue and grove 5/8th inch plywood. Looks good and really helps stiffen the structure up. If you go with something thin, consider t bracing to stiffen the walls. You do have a rolling roof on it.

I went to the local sawmill and got rough-sawn 1 x 12 boards for less than half the price of dressed lumber at the building supplies place. (Check out my thread here.)

5/8" Fiber board If you are referring to the finished product then Yep ! I did the same thing Inside and Out ,Over here it's called 5/8" Smart siding and comes per primed , Extra Strong needed for ROR is a must I think too, and I have a Dome go figure , I used it inside also knowing I'm going to be banging Myself around in the dark.

We used T-111 and were generally dissatisfied with its wearability. (Some have deteriorated after five-to-seven years to the point of replacement.)

Weyerhauser makes a fiberboard siding I have had on my home observatory forever without any downside. It has to be painted, though.

If you look at manufactured Holmes with 4'x8' sheets of Siding on it , that's Smart Siding or looks just like it , where I get it it comes Per Primed for paint 5/8" Thick 4'x 8' Fiberboard sheets , Ive been using and working with it for years ,I really like it, But I do live in AZ where it's dry .

Smart siding for me also. It is quite rigid and takes paint very well. I researched quite a bit, and this was the least expensive option I could find that gave you a "finished" look.

Wavecloud,
You can also consider Hardiboard (concrete). It doesn't rust, rot, or smell bad in wet weather. Paintable or prepainted. Installed right lasts for ~75yrs. If you have 24" framing, you're golden. It doesn't like hard point type impacts (baseballs). I'm putting on my house. I got ~1500sqft for $500. Frame for 24"OC & you can Tyvek wrap the walls & insulate inside.

Startraffic,
I've heard of that stuff.
What format does it come in?

I went to Lowes and they had an odd box of vinyl siding 2 squares left over. It was $200 marked down to $126 I offered them $60 for it and it was mine. More than enough to clad my Obs.

Google is your friend:
Cement board products
You probably want to add in the cost of a dedicated saw blade that's made for cutting cement board.
Installation works the best with an air gun, rather than a plain hammer.
It would help to know what kind of climate you're in.
One usually tailors materials choices to specific areas of the world.

Wavecloud,
I found mine at a building materials auction. It is 9" high, 8ft long, 1/4" thick with a 1" overlap. I'm drilling holes every 24" for decking screws & washers. I don't drive them down tight, just snug. I also got a load of another 4500sqft of 9"x8ftx3/8" for $750. Very cheap but FUGLY I don't care what it looks like as long as it keeps the weather out. SWMBO wasn't amused.

When I priced out vinyl siding for my 11x9', the prices ranged from $300 to $1500. The nice thing was it was an easy installation.
