Telescope covers in an observatory?
      #6111860 - 10/01/13 07:52 PM

Does anyone use telescope covers in your observatory? Telegizmos or similar? If so, which one(s)?

I cover the mount & scope with bath towels. They wick dew from the instruments.

I use an Orion Scope Cloak to cover my telescope inside the observatory. It works well at keeping the dust off the scope when our desert winds kick up.

For the past 12 years ... I've used an old cotton bed sheet to cover my 12" SCT. It's a light weight and breathable material ... yet keeps the dust and dirt off the scope.

Yes, I use a TeleGizmos on my 16". I have the one that fits when the scope is in the horizontal position.

I have mine in an excellent case that seals tightly. I have always left them in the dobservatory.

That's my idea of an observatory; not to have to lug things back & forth for viewing.

I use a bed sheet too, it can be washed if it gets pollen ect on it. I keep all my eyepieces in the obs also.

If you don't use something along the lines suggested above you will be cleaning massive amounts of pollen off the scope and mount on a regular basis (around here at least).

I use the cotton sheet because it can breath, a tarp ect would trap moisture underneath

Ditto on the old bed sheet....use to use plastic backed heavy curtain but i think it needs to breath while keeping *BLEEP* off

I bought a bunch of bedsheet like cloth and sewed a big bag to slip over the top, just to keep dust off. I use end caps and tube caps and such also.

Alex
