Met-Base is Shutdown / EOM is Up
      #6119191 - 10/05/13 03:27 PM

Here is the message for the Meteorite Database (Met-Base):

http://www.usgs.gov/

During the shutdown it looks like we will have to use other resources to do lookups and data confirmations.

Most of the same data and photos can be found at the Encyclopedia of Meteorites (EOM) website since the two databases are regularly synchronized:

http://www.encyclopedia-of-meteorites.com/Default.aspx

My entire collection catalog (2,382 entries) is now stored and updated at the EOM and I don't even maintain a spreadsheet anymore:

Regards,

RF

Thanks Linton!

Strange - my other shortcuts are still blocked - but this one and a few others do work.

Maybe they just closed certain paths.

So it is still available for use if you know the clear pathways.

Thanks!

OK - I see what the real issue is - the old links at usgs.gov were still being forwarded to the new site at lpi.usra.edu.

When the usgs.gov site was shutdown the link forwarding was inactivated.

So I guess the Lunar & Planetary Institute website is still essential at this point.

I'm glad it was moved a few years ago...
