JeffB had the good idea of allowing air (tube currents) to pass the outer edges of the baffles so as to avoid the possibilty of different air densities in the scope tube affecting the image at higher powers. It is simply a matter of allowing clearance between the outer baffle edge and the inside of the tube wall.

Here is a link to JeffB's latest telescope.

Hey Scott, is that pic taken at Scopex? (Sorry if the question sounds weird, but you don't have any details of your location)

Martin

Here is my first homemade scope, its a 10" f5. I designed it loosely around the Dobstuff scopes. I went with a smaller ALT bearing, as this is getting servocat treatment. I will be using the servocat system designed for the Meade Lightbridge. All parts designed in CAD and cut on a CNC.

Here's my 4.5" astrograph for planets and satellites. The tube is a 7" Hastings with both ends rolled. The inside is flocked with Scopestuff flocking. The exterior is painted with a dark chameleon paint and covered with a semi gloss clearcoat.

I have a 120mm computer fan on the back of it. I have multiple layers of foam in-between the oversized rings and the OTA. This absorbs all vibrations extremely well. The telescope provides tack sharp stars on an inky black backgroun. Even under high magnification this telescope is outperforming my expectations.

A Surplus Shed 5" Achromat with a homemade carbon fiber tube, ready for binoviewing. There is also an extension to be threaded before the focuser, to become a 'normal' telescope. Sorry about the dust
