My very own super fluffy Orion nebula new
      #6119382 - 10/05/13 05:45 PM

I went out for two nights last weekend, and gave in to the tempatation to photograph the orion nebula. Its just so bright . I even gave it long enough of an exposure to let me bring out a lot of the faint nebulosity around it. Unfortunetly, the FOV is pretty small on this one and I was having balance issues with the SE mount, so I lost maybe 1/4 of my shots. Oh well, enjoy!

What camera are you using and what settings? It's a very interesting image of M42. Never seen it so.. Fluffy before. It's almost like cosmic cotton candy.

I'm using a Nikon D5100 shooting raw. This image I did a bit of work in DSS. I actually made a collage of 3x drizzled images using DSS and microsoft ICE, then used photoshop CS2 to work with the full image. Unfortunately astrobin wouldn't let me upload my approximately 144 megapixel image .

These are 3 and 4 minute subs (I got confused between two nights of shooting).

I worked hard to bring out the fluff . if you look at my other iterations of the same pictures on my astrobin you see they aren't that fluffy, probably more of what you're used to.

I think the comparison to cotton candy is pretty apt, thanks .

Nice pic.
What is the ring isible exreme left side?
M42 is a favorite thing to view here.
With a large scope and a clear night it is absolutely amazing how big it is.

I find from the ratings that I get every time I post it in astrobin, that some members there are tired of M42 . I suspect they just troll for new shots of m42 and give them one star rating on principal.

I noticed that too and the 5-6 arcs on the right side.
