ETX-105 new
      #6018418 - 08/11/13 12:37 AM Attachment (76 downloads)

This is my latest addition... an ETX-105 in mint condition. I replaced the original finder with a laser pointer as I plan on using this as a point-to scope for my non-GoTo scopes. I had it out this evening to give it a thorough testing and it was amazing! The optics are superb with textbook diffraction rings. The double-double looked simply beautiful. I spent several hours hopping from one deep sky object to the next from Scorpio, up through Aquila, across Cygnus, and down into Cassiopeia. It is amazing what you can see when all of the light goes where it is supposed to go.

Neat stuff.

You must have got a good one! Where did you get the laser finder bracket stuff from?

Bob

Yep, this is a keeper! The finder bracket is the stock ETX bracket, I just replaced the screws with longer ones. If'n I recall right these are brass 1x6-32s. I took one of the original screws with me to a hardware store and matched the threads to a hex nut first, then picked out a set of cap screws and hex nuts. The hex nuts can serve as either lock nuts or as knobs pulled up snug under the screw caps. In this case I am using them as knobs.

Yep, for quite some time now. If'n I recall right only the ETX-80 and -90 are still being produced. I'd keep my eye open in Shop'n Swap and the Classifieds section. They show up once'n a while.

Congrats!!! I love my ETX-105 for quick set-ups and observing. Tends to be a lot of work to set up my 10" LX-200R (and much heavier). The ETX-105 is a great grab and go scope.

Have you thought about looking online at eBay or Craig's List? I bought my ETX125 off CL for a very fair price, got to meet the owner, and test it out before purchase versus eBay risks. Every now & then eBay has a 105 or 125 listing for reasonable... the challenge is getting one where last minute bids haven't jacked up the price beyond the moon. Some of those ebay jokers are trying to retire comfortably from selling a 105 or 125. They are the same ninnies that relist the scope month after month for thousands $$. Completely nuts of you ask me!

I love my ETX105 as well. Excellent optics and most issues with the mounts can be modded.

Excellent, looks great! I always thought the 105 would be the "Goldilocks" ETX, a little bit more light gathering power than the 90, but still easily portable. I have a project ETX-105 that's slowly getting there. I was able to fix the flip mirror (the mirror itself had come off its platform), now I just need a finder bracket and its mounting screw (I have a right-angle finderscope already, the 8x25). Anyone know where I can find one? Other than that it seems to work fine, can't wait to finally use it!
