32mm Upgrade new
      #6139758 - 10/15/13 08:27 PM

I have been thinking of upgrading from my 32mm Orion Optiluxe to another EP. I have Meade Series 5000 UW in 24mm and up and have been thinking of getting the 32mm.

But then I see OPT has that sale on Panoptics.

Any thoughts. I have a 12.5" f/5 Dob

Al

I didn't know Meade made a 32mm UWA eyepiece.
Panoptics would work, maybe the 35mm? That would give a 7mm exit pupil, which is fine if you are around 30. If you are over 50 you should probably stick with your 24mm. The ES 30mm is a nice compromise. Just remember all of these are big, heavy eyepieces that make plossls look like ants.

Also take a look at the ES34mmSWA as it is half the price of the 35Pan and almost as good!

In general, the ES eyepieces make more sense to me than the Meade's simply because they are more ergonomic, lighter and with a torpedo design and a rubber eye cup rather than the bulky, twist up eye cup.

Yes. That is the Meade 30mm.

Jon,

If I went with the Meade over the ES it would be to complete the set.

I have a 12.5" F/5 dob and use a Panoptic 24mm. It has the same FOV as my 32mm Plossl but yields darker skies. For wider views I go to 2".
