Anybody have comment on the 1972 crop of mirrors, this was still a number of years before Mr. Cave's health deteriorated.

Regards, Vinay

You'll probably be fine. Lots have mentioned that quality went down in later years, but I really have not seen this happening until maybe 1979 the final year. Even then the "crew" knew how to make mirrors. They had to be able to make them in their sleep. I have two wonderful 74, 75 mirrors and they are, well, wonderfull! Take her out under the stars and get it collimated properly. Do you have a laser like a howie glatter?

I had a '72 8" f/4.5 tested on the bench and it was about 1/4 wave. The only way to absolutely know for sure the quality of any mirror is not by name, but by the bench. Don't want to burst any bubbles, but thems the facts!

Thanks for the mirror information Vinay. That scope looks to be in very nice shape.

Any one know what the thread size on the 2" focuser is for this these vintage scopes? The previousl owner notched out the clamping ring for some reason, and I wanted to make a new one.

I don't rightly blame ya!
Last week I drove 3100 miles round trip in 4 days to pick up a Cave-Astrola 10" model C, that I'm now starting to refurbish/recondition.
It's my "Great Cave-Astrola Road Trip" story.

Hmmmm....maybe I should start a new thread to tell it all.
