Hold tight to your copy!

Look at the used prices on Amazon.

No point in stocking up on the 2014 edition. Issues earlier than 2013 are selling for $4 to $5. This is some strange glitch in the world of used book sellers. A friend, who collects books, believes some dealer gave it an inflated price, either by mistake or through some strange idea of its value, and everyone followed suit.

If you do follow used book prices, a search often gives a variety of prices, and many reasonably priced books include some ridiculous prices at the top end (and not for any obvious reason, like a first edition or signed copy).

Clear skies, Alan

This was discussed in an other thread. A CN member has this explanation:

"Some online sellers use bots and algorithms to price some or all of their wares. For example, a book seller might decide that book X is rare so they tell their bot system to look for other copies of book X and price their copy at some level above or below the other prices it finds (usually with a price floor but only sometimes with a price ceiling). Alternatively, the book seller may not have a copy of book X but decide that if they make their listed price high enough, e.g., the greater of 25% or $20 above the next highest price, then they will be able to buy a copy and resell it at a profit should a buyer request it. In both cases the bots recheck other sellers' prices and update their price every so often, e.g., daily. If you get multiple sellers trying to auto-price the same book at a higher price than other sellers you can get silly results, e.g., amazonís $23,698,655.93 book about flies. I'm not claiming that this is definitely what is happening in this case but it is a possibility."
