Allen head screws on Meade LX OTA
      #6159438 - 10/26/13 04:14 PM

What size allen wrench is it for these screws? I have to unmount the bracket for my ring set and get a new attachment bolt for it. My original tee handle wrench was stolen as it was in my accessory case.

My scope is not handy at the moment, but looking at my allen wrench sit, I believe it is 3/32", with a small possibility that it is 7/64".

I'm pretty sure it is 7/64.

I just checked my scope, and I am looking at the bolts that hold the corrector ring to the tube and hold the rear assembly to the tube, and they are 3/32" on my 8" scope.

Interesting, I would have thought something as simple as that would have been common.

So is it 3/32" or 7/64"?

I was looking at my 8" which is 3/32 and expected that these would be common throughout the product line. Bill looked at his 10" and says they are 7/64. It appears that you have a 10" so I would go with what Bill said. Sorry if I added a confusion factor.

You want the allen wrench size for the screws that attach to the finder scope bracket on the OTA? I gave you the 7/64 size that is for the secondary mirror collimation screws on my LX90 10" For the finder scope screws, it is probably smaller, so the 3/32 might be correct. Sorry for the confusion on my part.

Bill

I ordered a 3/32" T-handle allen wrench online. I hope that it will fit. Cost me almost $15

Just out of curiosity, let me know how it goes. I know there was some confusion for this so I am still interested just for future reference.

Are you sure you would want not to spend this kind of money?
gas alone to make a future trip to the hardware will cost more.

$1.99

I think you will find that Meade used adhesive to attach the cells to the main tube. Very good adhesive.

BTW, the correct term for these is socket head screws. "Allen" [head/wrench] is a registered trademark, originated by the Allen Manufacturing Company of Hartford, Connecticut, and currently owned by Apex Tool Group, LLC. Hex head set screws are the type that the Brits call grub screws, which is nicely descriptive.

More specifically, button head socket cap screws
