My new Ioptron IEQ45
      #6161854 - 10/28/13 04:33 AM Attachment (49 downloads)

All I need now is a 4" Apo and to decide which dovetail plate to use, the Vixen or the Losmandy?

Any Ideas?

I'd stick to Losmandy dovetail as there seems to be strong consensus that it provides superior performance with regards to preventing flex.

I just switched both my refractors over to Losmandy dovetails. Not only do you get support from the saddle clamps, further support is provided by the wider dovetail plate resting on the mount's horizontal surface. So you end up with two angles of support. A side benefit of the Losmandy's wide plate is you can sit your scope down on the carpet without it flopping over like a Vixen equipped scope would do.

This is a very nice benefit - I used to hate setting down my refractor with the Vixen plate, with the wider Losmandy it stands up nice. This is a VERY nice added bonus and a good call out!

Cool mount. Is the 4" APO the only scope going on there? Just curious about how much of its capacity you will be using.

Looks very cool.. I also like the AZ version or upgrade, Often you just want to take a peek and you don't need all the goto or eq wizardry. If so then desired one could do long tracking session for viewing or photography. But you usually plan such nights.

How would these mounts compare to the Losmandy 8-11?

I bought the mount for photography with my new Tak TSA102 which I have just ordered. I've never played with the Losmandy so don't know how they would compare. I tried the IEQ45 out last night with my 120mm achro but I need alot more practice getting accurate polar alignment. We dont have a bright pole star down here in Australia so I am using the star drift method.

Yes. The 4" apo, guide scope and camera equipment are the only instruments to be mounted on it. I just ordered a Tak TSA102 and the complete setup should be well under 45 pounds. This should be good for photography.
