Did you mean the Dino 246 GT? The 246 was destined to be desirable. First mid engine road car, low production numbers, beautiful coachwork and still old school build quality. The 308/328 are not very pretty by comparison. Notice how the 360, 430 and 458 design are more similar to the Dino.

Indeed. Fat fingered and didn't catch it.

It's easy to look back now and say they were destined, but there was a time when they were dirt cheap relatively speaking, and few were interested in them, especially as a collectable, simply because the name plate didn't say Ferrari.

And, so not to fall afoul of the moderators, the point I was making is that Unitron/Polarex are just names, as others here have pointed out. The engineering and construction is the same (as with the Dino and the Ferraris of the time.

I totally agree with your response and understand your reasoning perfectly Xavier. They are essentially the same reasons as my own. We are all victims to a degree of being programmed by advertising and I think we were especially susceptible in our younger years. When I think Unitron, those pictures and labels from those 1960s Sky and Telescope adds immediately flashes into my mind. I rationally understand that it is just silly programmed reaction and that Unitron and Polarex were just trade names of importing companies and that the scopes themselves are exactly the same. But for me, I can't divorce rationality and thinking, from feeling and emotion. I'm glad for that.

I do not care about the name on the focuser.......Polarex or Unitron they all look the same to me.I even have one with Weltblick on it ! ( and did also have a Meridian branded one from Sweden )
These names are only the different trade names and for me the only real name is Nihon Seiko Kenkyusho telescope ( in Japan the trade name was Seiko Scope and so the real name )

I agree. In my case, this is the brand on the focuser, the EP's are labelled "TIC".

I'm very hopeful you will get your scope Chuck. People are just real busy with families/travel this time of year.

Do you think I'd be out of line to ask for them to refund what I paid for shipping? It was for "expedited" shipping, specifically Priority Mail. If they delay shipment, what the heck good is paying for expedited shipping? That's kind of sticking in my craw.

I can't tell you what you should do, but it would bother me also.

I sure do hope it works out for you.

I can say this. I bought an item from Texas a few days ago, but was not notified it was shipped until yesterday. The tracking then told me it was in our local facility. I'm just saying it might be well on its way; but, due to the holiday, you are not being informed. Hope so anyway.

I'm hoping it did get shipped promptly and they are just terrible at communications. We'll see what tomorrow brings, or Saturday. If it's not here by Saturday then surely they have dropped the ball and have been ignoring both the auction site as well as their email. I've since sent them a message enquiring about it, no response.

This sale brought back a more recent memory for me (from Mid October)... check this out.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Southern-Precision-Instrument-Astronomical-Te...

I wonder if it was the same scope with borrowed text and photos from the last auction or a different scope also with borrowed text and photos from the last auction. Either way are vintage telescope values depreciating or is ending an auction on Thanksgiving evening just the worst timing possible (aside from Christmas morning)?

I would think (Hope?) that its more due to the issues of ending on Thanksgiving day.

I'd bet it's the same scope. The recent seller has a feedback score of 4, same as the buyer in October. Neither buyer or seller from the October sale left each other feedback. Hmmmm.

Yes, and also low feedback sellers have hard time selling stuff.

Nice, you just bought a Unitron EQ mount. Probably for a 128?

GREAT! I was hoping it might be a Unitron! I bought the mount because I like the look, and the great setting circles. Looks like I will have to fabricate a counter weight bar, and maybe a few other items to be determined once the mount arrives.
