Not necessarily. It is not rare fora prior owner to paint their binoculars with their own black paint. This nececisitates stripping off the paint. As long as the solder is not removed from the engraving, your binocular might still be desirable if the optics are clear. I agree that this value would be lower compared to a similar pair with original paint in nice condition.

What kind of binoculars are yours? Is a Feldstecher or maybe a Jadglas. Are the prism covers flat or sloped. What is the Vegr= number? Can yo find the serial number? If the serial number is low and depending on the Vegr= number, they still might be worth a lot.

Cheers,
Dan

Hi Dan.
Optics are in excellent condition and sharp. Serial 5093. Sloped prism covers. Feldstecher Vegr= 12. 25mm objectives. I bought it with case exactly as shown in my pictures 33yrs ago at an antique shop in Canada.
Robert

Bob and Chas,

I believe that I was too late. I contacted the seller about setting up a time to meet and look at the scope. I did not hear back from them. I tried the link to the listing but it said that it was deleted. It seems like my luck...

I jumped the gun, i was thinking it was a pre 1976 small round base C5.

Chas

WWII German anti-Aircraft binocs-10x80 new [Re: CHASLX200]

Here ya go:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-German-Flak-Binoculars-10-X-80-Military-Field-Ge...

These things are cool- they are the inclined eyepiece binoculars. They weigh a ton and require a sturdy mount. I looked through a pair of these one night in the California desert some years ago and they were fun.

The story in the add is pure hokum though. They rightly refer to them as flak binoculars but then say they came off of a tank rather than an antiaircraft battery where they would have most likely directed fire from 20mm Flakvierling 38 cannons. The "Sgt. York" element of the tail is also amusing.

Cve 10" cass available new [Re: astronomylife]
      #6196226 - 11/15/13 10:07 AM

If anyone is interested, I have been in contact with a seller who will be offering a Cave 10" cassegrain, just like the one I just finished restoring. It is a one owner scope and is located in New Mexico. Shipping will not be a possibility. If anyone would like to get a head start on this, I know the owner would like to find it a nice home. It was her late husband's telescope. It has a unitron focuser, an unheard of hurst motorized focuser control, and the original drive corrector that I've been looking for forever! Contact me through my website email or PM for details. We want to find it a nice home, er, nice large home for her!

Hey George. What ever happened with your trip to LA a week or two ago. Did you get a chance to see the Stoody telescope at the pawn shop out there?

I didn't make it there. I probably could have run by there as it turns out, but the Nagler population in my house suddenly grew, reducing my immediate interest in that scope.

I still find it intriguing and if I could find more information on it somewhere, it could rekindle my interest. I especially wish I could find some info regarding the drive that was on it.

Terra, funny thing is I was excavating a 1/4 mile up the road from this estate sale yesterday. It turns out that it is a 3" Bausch & Lomb alt/az yoke mount missing the base. Is that a collectable scope? It sure is one HEAVY scope, two eyepieces, and a few Unitron items which were snatched by another collector(anyone here?)I did manage to get one Unitron solor projection set up for a 60mm, not a great price but I needed one so I am very happy.
Most of the Unitron items were picked through by earlybirds the day before. Someone bought the Unitron camera for $175, I was going to buy it but was unsure if that was a good price or not.
