Just-Cheney Insulated Dew Shields?
      #6179959 - 11/06/13 08:31 PM

Does anyone here know whether Just-Cheney is still making dew shields?

If they are not still in business, what are the best alternatives? I want a flexible, effective dew shield for my 140mm refractor.

My refractor has a dew shield, of course, but I want to supplement it.

Thank you.

E.

Anacortes is listing them.

Their website indicated that there was a medical emergency and that they would not be taking orders indefinitely. Now the website seems to be gone. Not looking good.

Anacortes tells me that Just-Cheney is no longer in business. (

A "Just-Cheney"-like dewshield costs about $25 to build yourself, and only because typically you have to buy a bigger roll of Reflectix than you need. Here are the components I used:

1. Reflectix
2. Black felt
3. Krylon or your favorite high strength adhesive (avoid stick on felt as it will eventually come loose)
4. Velcro.
5. Foam rubber pieces.

You can also use black tape to cover the edges but it's not required (if you do so, cover the edges before you stick on the felt as the tape doesn't adhere too well to felt).

I've constructed 4 of these and each time it takes less than an hour. Typically, I would make a cutout for the dovetail and slide the dewshield further down the tube. The last time I did it differently and I think this is the better design as you don't have to fiddle with it to prevent it from cutting into the light path.

Tanveer.
