Well, guess what, folks! I just spoke with Michelle Rodriguez at Explore Scientific, and she informed me that ES will NOT be selling the 127L after all, only the 127S. She apologized profusely for the previous misinformation and implied that it was not ES's decision. She also informed me that I could purchase the 127L from Bresser in Europe. I'm not sure how good an option that is, however.

I think the Astrozap is very similar- 127mm, 1200mm f.l. $579 with free shipping from Woodland Hills Camera.

Yeah, I got an e mail from my contact too saying the same. I bet someone didn't know about an old distribution agreement or something!
I wonder what the price from Bresser EU would be along with the import costs? Very disappointed. I guess I'll have to look for a AR-5 used somewhere.

Anyone owned or used the Astrozap 127 F/9.5?

I have an e-mail in to Bresser asking about price, shipping, etc.

- Bresser Messier 127/1200 OTA @ 369€ (494 US$). Shipping GLS: 176.90€ (237.15 US$)
www.astroshop.eu/p,13233

- Bresser Messier 152/1200 OTA @ 476€ (638 US$): Shipping DHL Premium: 111.90€ (150.01 US$).
www.astroshop.eu/p,20908

In both cases you may save some bucks.

I think that is the cheaper online shop we got in Europe selling Bresser AC telescopes.
There may be others the same price, but they are not much known, so you better go with known dealers.

I purchased from Astroshop always and they offer quite a good price.
Overall I'm a happy customer of astroshop. But their consumer support service is not that good. I mean, they will replace you broken pieces or send missing parts and such, but your email questions will probably need 2 or 3 days to get and answer. And even when they are polite, they are rather "short on words". Once I asked them to send me a missing part. They didn't answered my mail at all, but one day a DHL guy appeared with the missing parts at my door. During that week I was guessing if they received my email or even if they sent it directly to the bin...

Also we got teleskop-express, who is well known here. They are the direct competitors with astroshop. Although I never purchased from them, their prices are usually lower than those in astroshop. I would purchase from teleskop-express, but since only astroshop had what I needed, then I had no choice.
Their customer support is better. They will answer you really fast, very polite and friendly.
Actually I'm going to pruchase some things from them before end of december.

In either case, both of them are excelent dealers and the cheapest ones you can find around Europe.

Well I asked APM to give me the pricing on the 127L and the answer was: "Export price is 311 Euro plus shipping DHL 75 Euro. You have to pay your taxes and customs." So at current rate that's US $519 plus whatever customs cost would be.(75-100?) Certainly this is way above the ES quoted delivered price. So to me, its not worth it with the added hassle of importation, cost, chance of issues, communications gap, etc. Oh well.

Is this scope signicantly better than the "common" Orion 120mm f8.3 ?

I was focused on this 1200mm f/9.4 because of its longer f/l (in theory less CA) and the fact that I already have a 1000mm f/l 102mm achromat. With all the excitement about the Celestron 102mm f/9.8 I was hoping to get a little more light gathering for my grab and go set up. I don't want any short f/l refractor for my white light pollution area.
IMO for whatever the reason that ES can't or won't now sell the long version, its a marketing mistake, especially at a $450 shipped price point. Imagine the excitement it could produce?

Have you looked at the Astrozap version of the same scope? I believe it is $579.

Wait, wait.
The Bresser 127mm is 7kg and 1.2meters long.
The 152mm is 11kg and the same length.
I saw once a 152/1200 and it is a beast. I wouldn't call it grab&go. At least not as grab&go'able as a 100/1000 or a 80/700.

Plus also take into account that for the 152mm an EQ5 will be undermounted, so you will need a HEQ5.
And for the 127mm the EQ5 would me near its limit.

My definition of grab and go is much heavier than most anyone else's. I always use a EQ-6 Go to. And my 102mm has rings and a handle that I use to mount it with 1 hand. Compared to my other scopes, that's soooo easy. With non Go To mounts, its just too hard and time consuming to find things in my light polluted area. I've had a carbon triplet f/8 152 for a short while and it did fine, so I know. But I don't want a 152.....I have a 180mm Mak for planetary, moon and tighter DSOs now. But if I could find a longer f/l 127 achromat like this f/9.4 it would help with my particular set of viewing requirements. And one that wouldn't break the bank.
That's why I thought, after viewing for a half year with the 102mm f/9.8, that it would be as/even more enjoyable. So I hope this explains it a little more.
It still comes down to my opinion that ES reversal is quite disappointing to me and evidently others since they had a few orders in process when they reversed their sales strategy.
Regards,
Bob

Not a problem. Thanks anyway. Just points out the need for Bresser to address this with a seller/distributor in the USA!

Just purchased the AR 127L and tracking system.. shipping is a little steep, but looks worth it overall. Could not control my mouse finger when it hovered over "Add to shopping cart". I will give a report when it arrives.
