Hey Pete. Don't mean to hijack this thread but i was doing a google search on photometry and exoplanets and your thread from last year popped up.

Still doing photometry?

PS, my 4 year old cge-pro was the new version.

You could always cancel the order at Amazon and order from the CN sponsor for the exact same price you paid. You'd know it was "fresh stock" then. I mean no disrespect here at all, but personally, I'd never order something like that from Amazon for the very reason you site.

I totally would do that...but half the price of this was paid with a Amazon gift card I had burning a hole in my pocket. Otherwise, I would not being buying this right now. Like I said, if there are any issues, Celestron will take care of them. I am not too worried about it really. Plus it will be cloudy here in Michigan until April...so I have plenty of time to inspect things.

Skunky - I have not done any photometry since then. Actually sold my ST-7E and Photometry filters.

Under the same circumstances, I would have done the same as you! After I posted the "why don't you cancel" I wondered if it really made any sense for Amazon (or one of its sellers) to warehouse the CGE Pro. I really believe everybody just places an order with Celestron and the goods are drop-shipped from Celestron directly to you. I now think you have nothing to be concerned about.

When you receive it, check to see if it comes from a third party. Many items from Amazon come from a third party. For some reason, I don't see Amazon warehousing a CGE Pro. That assumption could be off base, but it's worth checking.

David

Looking on Amazon, it looks like it comes from a reseller called PlumStruck.

That is correct, it is coming via 3rd party which is PlumStruck. I do have an email into them asking if the mount is in their warehouse or being dropped shipped right from Celestron. My guess is they dont stock the mount. Looking at their website, they have quite the bit of stuff Celestron, Starlight Instruments, ADM, Sky Watcher, JMI...but they all show the items usually ship within 1-6 days. They also show a Meade 14" LX850 that ships in 4-5 days too....without being a dedicated astro shop, I cannot imagine them stocking all that high $$$ items.

I think you'll be in pretty good shape to get a new one.

Just an update: I got a reply from PlumStruck on if this comes from their warehouse: "This item ships from the supplier." So, looks like a fresh one from Celestron!

Congrats on the new mount. Have a couple CGE Pro's and very happy with them.

Phil
