Jupiter on a frosty morning new
      #6161941 - 10/28/13 07:21 AM Attachment (62 downloads)

I got up early with some frost and clear skies. A crescent Moon and Jupiter where shining bright along with the winter all stars, Orion and the Seven Sisters. Jupiter looked good at the eyepiece so I did a quick sketch. The Great Red Spot looks much more red than it did last year. I saw some good detail and may have seen more in a cooled scope. I used my Orion XT8 and a 10mm Plossl and 5mm TMB planetary eyepiece.

Ken

Thanks Jean, Andre, and Christian,

I certainly am seeing a redder GRS. I would be curious what others think. It seems quite darker than last year.

Although I think my sketch show up a bit too dark!

Yes, the GRS appears more saturated than last year. I've only seen it twice this year, but I suspect it is. Others are reporting the same.

Also, note the northern temperate region. It's not as well defined as it was, almost one complete hood over the north. The NTZ is still visible, but it's less well defined.

Very nice sketch and observation Ken, you recorded a lot of fine detail.

Best,

Eric
