We are now able to offer our apochromatic Zerochromat II 8 inch dialyte refractor OTA at a price of just US$5000!
The design is a singlet f19 plano convex objective lens followed by a series of small corrector lenses to remove aberrations. The path length is folded by two flat mirrors, high reflectivity coated for maximum light transmission. All other air-to-glass surfaces are broadband coated in the visible range.
The specifications are:
Objective diameter 203mm (8 inches)
Focal length 2400mm (f11.8)
Tube diameter 288mm
Tube length 1550mm
Tube is carbon fibre, painted a durable white colour, with gloss black end caps.
OTA weight 10kg
Field of view 0.8 degrees
Strehl ratio 0.97
Supplied with Moonlite 2 inch focuser and 8 x 50 right-angle finderscope.

These instruments are hand made to order, and delivery is normally 8 to 10 weeks after receiving a 50% deposit.

10 kgs?! That is truly remarkable. I want one too but I don't see it happening sadly. Still, I'm sure those fortunately enough to get one will be very, very happy.

The weight of 10 kg is genuine, and it sits quite happily on an EQ6 or similar mount.

Collimation is very easy indeed, as the small mirror is fixed, and the large fold flat is adjustable while observing through the instrument. I have travelled about all over, and the collimation does not move.

For those who are interested, the Zero is a retrofocally corrected dialyte similar to a Schupmann, but unlike the Schup' it has all refractng optics behind the prime focus, and is a true refractor, whereas the Schup' is a catadiopric system. The diagram shews the research system from which Peter developed a whole new series of improved Apochromatic systems uniquely his own.

Please find attached spot sizes of a typical air-spaced 8 inch f12 achromat refractor compared with an 8 inch Zerochromat refractor.
The results speak for themselves.
