Uranus, and Jupiter (with Io) Nov 30 new
      #6226281 - 12/01/13 01:34 AM Attachment (50 downloads)

Hi all,
Just a couple of pictures from last night. Both taken by stacking very short videos from a point and shoot camera handheld at the eyepiece. Really fun session with lots of detail seen on Jupiter despite sub-par seeing, and my first Neptune observation of the season.

Hand held, very nice! I have one of these

and my results aren't as good.

Thank you!
I have a similar one... actually a couple, but I don't use them. I use a non motorized alt-az mount, and I find it much easier to leave the scope in one spot and steadily move the camera by hand, rather than attempt to move the entire scope while keeping the object in the center of the FOV at high mag. Anyway it allows me to have most of the session as a visual one and just hold up the camera for a few seconds at a cool moment. Although those camera holder things can be moved kind of quickly, they still need to be attached and unattached to use them. Maybe I'm just lazy

Simply amazing, Mark.

Like more complex imaging, even point and shoot has come a long way. As far as I know, you're the best at it.

Just wanted to say, thank you very much!! Ya... point and shoot has definitely come a long way. I don't think I could have gotten shots like these with a P&S handheld until very recently. Heh... well if I'm the best at it it may be because I'm the only one silly enough to try stacking handheld 10 second videos! Going to keep working at it. Thanks to everyone on this board for the daily inspiration of your incredible photos and all the tips in every thread about how to improve. Truly great community.
