Gastropod fossil in Steinheim shattercone
      #6235776 - 12/05/13 04:56 PM Attachment (25 downloads)

I recently received a small lot of Steinheim crater shattercones and was perplexed by the neatly rounded border on the side of one of the specimens. Flipping the piece over, I was delighted to find a gastropod fossil in the specimen.

Nice find! I also bought a lot of those several years ago, but didn't find anything extra like that.

I have seen impact-shocked fossils from the same locality, but they are usually singular specimens with no associated matrix.

Your piece is definitely a keeper.

Best regards,

MikeG
