This is another drawing I've wanted to make for some time. Obviously a telescope is not the best instrument to observe this particular object but I really wanted to catch as much nebulosity as I could. Perhaps I'll make another drawing of it when the moon's gone again but this time with my Nexus 100. Conditions weren't all that good with the quarter moon still low above the horizon and my eyepieces constantly fogging up. So it was difficult to see which was the "real" nebulosity and which was simply caused by condensation. But in the end I think I've made it.

Peter

Peter,

Very nice sketch.
I have had the same experience on a cold humid winter night.

Frank

Peter, wow, I have always found Merope nebula so hard to see. In fact I don't recall eve having seen it.

The other night I sketched M42 on paper. Translating it to a computer image was less than successful. It gives me a real appreciation for how you rendered Merope so softly.

Well done and a great observation of a difficult (for me) subject.

Peter,
I agree with Norme. You have captured some great subtleties with your sketch. I tried M45 the other night with my wide field refractor and wasn't happy with pencil on white paper the inversion did not go well as seen below.

I really like your technique for showing your sketch. It's quite breathtaking
You have a great way of showing the at the eyepiece look, great work.

Ken

Black and white, I may try on black paper with white pastel. M45 is such a lovely target.

Wow, Peter, this is a really unique look at the sisters. I love it. I can't say I've seen nebulousity like that before. Awesome.

How much of the fog seems if you do not use a filter?
