Geysers on Europa? more for Juno to check out...

Europa may emit geyser-like plumes of water for a short period during the 'apojove' farthest portion of its orbit around Jupiter. Tidal stress at its poles might open up the ice covering Europa's ocean, allowing the release to occur. Similar phenomena seen on Enceladus before, now at (slightly) more accessible Europa with Juno en route...

I'm really hoping we can convince some space agency, somewhere, to put together a major mission to Europa. It's got a huge amount of potential.

ESA might be on it - the same article linked above mentions the upcoming JUICE probe to Jovian ice moons, which will fly by Europa's equator (not the now-exciting poles), more below. Note that USA cancelled a companion Europa orbiter due to budget... see other recent posts in this forum...

A probe focused specifically on Europa looks a lot more defensible and interesting now, too.

And the equator still looks pretty interesting to me!
