A huge collective work in France in 2 volumes.

A new book about sketches dedicated to astronomy: "Astrodessin", has just been published in France. Sorry it is in French.

The book conducted by Serge Vieillard, an experimented amateur, is a huge collective work is in 2 volumes around 700 pages with a lot of sketches made by 15 French and German amateurs. We can also find a large number of technics, instrumental and sky constraints and also the psychology of the observer. This is a very comprehensive book.

You can see large abstracts of the book here:

It centainly looks very impressive! If this is ever going to be published in English it will find a large worldwide audience, no doubt about it.

I would definitely buy it!

Dear Roel,
Sure this book would find a large audience in English.
It has been a 3 years hard work for the team of friend who made it .
As far as I know, it is not forecast to have a translation in the near future...unfortunetely...
But for french reader, It is really a "bible" about astro sketching.
I received mine yesterday and the amount of work is just incredible. I've only looked yet at the text below the sketches, you feel the passion of the authors everywere.
Seems to be 2 really great books !

There are 1173 sketches in this book, made by 15 passionated amateurs, some of them very experienced observers.

So, even if you can not read the texts, you can admire the pictures, some of them are just incredible, either of the moon, the planets, planetary nebulae, galaxies, etc...

The abstracts give a little idea of the real thing:

It might seem over-enthousiastic (there are some of my sketches in the book...) but frankly, anybody interested by astronomy sketching, or even, by observing, should have it.

I have never seen something similar or equivalent...

I hope that it will be one day or another translated at least in English, but this might take several years...

Pierre, there are some great works in there. The thing that threw me off was not speaking French. Sure, you don't need to, but it's nice to understand what is being said accompanying the illustrations, as well.

Looks like an incredible offer. I just oredered it too. I will also refresh my school French. 20€ for the package to sent from France to Germany is a lot of money. Two volumes printed in color for 50€ is a bargain. In summary it is a fair price. Thats my Santa Claus gift.

I can only echo Uwe: "c'est impressionant" Even if you don't understand (very good) French, the immages only are already worth the money.

I agree with you all, this is a real astro sketch bible. A good value for our cloudy nights to prepare the dark ones...

Looks like an amazing book! Topler, Pothier... nice!

Too bad the only payment option is Paypal... and shipping costs are probably more expensive than the two volumes. Other than that I'd order my copy in a heartbeat.

For Europe the shipping costs are 19 euro. The book is 49 euro.

Thanks for clearing that up. Now only the PayPal problem remains. I'll keep looking.
