What's a Questar 7 going to set me back? new
      #6257282 - 12/16/13 11:02 PM

I've always read of the overall quality of Questars. But even the smaller 3.5 is expensive. If I decided to buy the 7 in. it sounds like I would have to take out a loan or put up something for collateral. I can't seem to find out what a Questar 7 would cost, new or used. Do they hold their value like a Rolex or Mercedes? If they do then that's a plus.

A lot. Check the Company Seven website for a description and prices.

I would suggest you phone Jim Reichert at Questar. 1 (215) 862-5277
Price varies based on model, mirrors, and coatings.

Roughly the price for an OTA is from about $8,000 to $28,000 and about $6,500 for the Fork Mount assembly.

The waiting time for us was about two years from the time of order.

Wow! out of my league. I am primarily a deep sky enthusiast, so it doesn't sound like it's for me. I've looked through a Q 3.5 at a star party years ago, very sharp and lots of contrast.

I just sold my Astro 7 model which I purchased for 9k+ and one year wait. Doesn't have the control box of a standard Q7 and is meant for mounting on a GEM which I had. Provides a cheaper alternative to get the same great optics and build quality.

Never say never. Used scopes do surface occasionally, and some great deals can be had. When you have some time, read the information about Questars on the company 7 website. It will give you a good base of knowledge if you come across a potential buy in the future.
