Lightweight AG Optical Systems 14.5" F6.7 iDK new
      #6291802 - 01/04/14 12:54 PM Attachment (47 downloads)

AG Optical Systems is considering building a special run of light weight 14.5" F6.7 LW Imaging Dall Kirkham astrographs. These astrographs leverage our proven iDK optical design to provide razor sharp stars to the corner of big chip cameras. Now we are creating a big imaging scope in a lightweight assembly that heavily leverages carbon fiber composites, cellular optics, and CNC machining technologies. At 44 lbs ready to image, this scope is one-person portable and can be carried by AP900, Paramount MX, and Losmandy G11 class mounts.

Telescope Specs

- 14.5" F6.7 iDK optics providing 65mm flat field free from astigmatism and coma (3 micron to 10 micron diameter RMS spot size across 65mm FOV, .38 to 1 micron wavelength)
- Cellular primary mirror weighing only 7.5 lbs for very rapid cool down, outstanding tracking of ambient temperatures for figure stability, and major reduction of image blurring tube currents
- Quartz secondary mirror aids focus stability
- Nomex honeycomb sandwich core carbon fiber composite tube providing outstanding mechanical and thermal stability (made by AG Optical Systems)
- FLI Atlas focuser
- CNC machined, anodized 6061 aluminum components
- Weight: approx. 44 lbs including focuser, OTA, and dovetail plate (in other words, full up telescope weight ready for your CCD gear)
- Pricing: TBD but around $17,750 shipped

Please contact AG Optical Systems if you are interested in learning more about this telescope.

The attached image is of a full tube 12.5" iDK and is to illustrate what the 14.5" LW iDK will look like.

Regards,

Dave Tandy

Three AG Optical Systems 14.5" Lightweight iDK telescopes are still available. The Dream Cellular primary weighs a feathery 7.5 lbs (yet is still 2" thick for excellent stiffness) while the cellular secondary mirror weighs under 1 lbs (yet still has an diameter to thickness ratio of 6). The overall weight savings compared to standard blanks is nearly 18 lbs of thermal mass!

Contact AG Optical Systems to learn more about our Dream Cellular 14.5", 17" and 20" LW iDK systems.
