Time for a new scope! new
      #6301978 - 01/09/14 12:29 PM

Hello, once a year I like to buy me something. So this year bought a new Apertura AD-12, with tweaker package. I wanted a big light bucket for two years!
No more SCT for me, sold that two months ago. The only other telescope I own is a 60mm refractor.

can't wait, Tom

For a solid tube scope I think that is probably the best scope for the money. The tweakers pkg is well worth the money for what it has. The next thing to add to it if you can is the Sky Commander pkg and maybe a telrad finder. The Sky Commander pkg is at Zummell accessories. Nice part getting it from them is the holder for the control unit. Have fun and be sure and post your first light. Thanks

I second B.Cook about the Telrad finder. I LOVE my red dot finder. 1x finding is so much better than upside down narrow view 6x finding. I can place the dot on Jupiter, and then look through the scope at 72x, and see it in view. No need to go through low power first.

The only reason to use an optical site is if you don't know where your target is because you left your star chart at home, and your low power is high power. Then the optical finder will save you some search time. Or if you know the general area, but not exactly enough. I memorize exactly where stuff is, so I just need the RDF to get them.

I bought the Zhumell 12 dob and I will say it is one of the sharpest scopes I have ever owned. Such a fun scope to use and with wheels on the base very easy to move in and out of the house. Sence getting this scope 6 months ago I have not hardly used my Meade 10 sct LX200 and it is also a very sharp scope just doe's not give the same views as the 12 inch dob gives on planets or deepsky. The 12 inch just about beats the 10 sct in every way but for the goto system.

Donnie3, I think the "Zhumell Accessories" he was referring to is at AstroSystems. He sells a complete DSC skycommander kit specifically for the aluminium Zhumell/GSO bearing setup.
For 495.00.
