      #6321731 - 01/19/14 07:20 AM Attachment (18 downloads)

I was able to see the temporary exhibit of NWA 7325 at Yale. It is a great presentation about a meteorite like no other.

Thanks,

Peter

Hi,

Thanks it was a great display. I loved that they included the pros and cons for the meteorite being from Mercury.

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Martin,

The meteorite's good side. The one with the green crust.

Thanks,

Peter

Thanks for all of this Peter. I wish I could have seen the exhibit. I own a piece of the "likely paired."

Isn't the Abee meteorite also "possibly" from Mercury? Or maybe it was just once thought it was possibly from Mercury.

Hi Kent10,
Abee is one of those interesting and very beautiful meteorites. It was formed iron rich oxygen poor environment. Speculation had it forming in the area of Mercury’s orbit prior to Mercury becoming differentiated. However that hypothesis was left behind with the realization of abundance of type E asteroids in the main asteroid belt. Type E asteroids, like the Abee meteorite, are composed of enstatite. It is improbable that these asteroids migrated from Mercury to the main asteroid belt.
Thanks,
Peter
P.S. you are lucky to have such beautiful and rare samples in your collection.
