If you just purchased it and it was new, rather than start jerry rigging it, call whoever you got it from and see what they say, just an idea, Kasey

I just went home and checked, there is already a washer on there.

Oh and I tightened down the peg as hard as I could and it didn't do anything.

Here are the pics I took deviantart

Is the jam nut on the alignment peg? Is it tight against the baseplate side? Don't thread the peg AND nut together into the mount all the way, and use the nut to tighten.

Thread the nut all the way up the peg, thread both down into the mount leaving a thread or two exposed UNDER the nut. Then, thread the nut down, hold the peg, and tighten the snot out of the jam nut.

They are both as tight as they will ever be on there.

Look at the peg and the wear spot, it appears to be as tho sliding off the face of it by the pictures, Kasey

Keep in mind the peg is on the opposite side that I use it on in the pictures, so the wear is not relative to its current position.

If everything is tight and put together properly, something is wrong with the mount. The first VX I received had an improperly threaded bolt hole for the central bolt, the tripod bolt. Carefully threaded the bolt in and...it was locked in place so tightly it took a pipe wrench to get the mount head off the tripod. I also noted that the hole for the toe-saver on the counterweight shaft was improperly threaded; the toe-saver would not thread on all the way. The replacement mount was perfect.

Anyhoo...the two easiest things for you to do? Return the mount for a replacement, or fabricate some kind of big washer to place between mount and tripod head.

Based on the wear spots on the casting I wonder if the mount head is actually seating properly.
