Excellent image Mike. I really like the image scale of your new setup.

Hey Mike -

Do you have a way of adjusting the collimation of the scope remotely? It looks like something is up, judging by the stars in the upper left region of the image.

-Josh

no, and the scope was expertly collimated by Mike Rice with a laser and Tak. I was actually there when he did it. I've got a few bad frames I'm removing now. I forgot to setup my flip pause and had a few trails transit

Well that's a relief if it's something that simple.

I've never looked into what it takes to have a remote setup, but how would you handle something like a collimation issue, or something else where someone had to be on site to fix it? Are there local people in NM-Skies that you can pay or contract to do work like that?

Revision

I guess that's what I get for processing at 1:00 am, not paying attention

That's looking far better, Mike. No more blown out stars, no more dark donuts around stars, and no more wonky star shapes =)

Far less overcooked. I like the second one better. I was afraid to comment when the first image was posted because I felt I had not had enough experience and would make a fool of my self :P

A lesson I've learned, many times when you've worked on an image for too long, you become blind to the flaws. Asking other experienced imagers can really help. They usually spot flaws right away that you're overlooking. I normally always print my image first as well. Often the not so obvious on the screen, becomes very obvious in print, especially color balance.

Hi Mike:

Your quote indicates a problem. We APers seem locked on a self-destructive, ever-escalating road of disatisfaction and hyper-self criticism.

Both your Horses were excellent. I did not notice the out of round stars in the upper left corner in the first one but am glad to see you were able to correct it by discarding a few "bad" subs. The difference in the two images that is most significant to my eye is that the second has star colour while the first has only white stars.

Both are great IMO and only astro-geeks would notice anything wrong with either of them.

I am curious about the double diffraction spike from Alnitak though? I know the AGO does not have a double-vaned spider.

I don't think that's a double Terry, as I get closer to the star it merges like all the rest.
