That's great, Ryan! If you camp, be sure to read the general information in the opening post on the thread and especially be prepared for wind. It usually becomes brisk in the afternoon then dies down as the evening cools. Sometimes, rarely, we get a real windstorm. You might locate the thread from the 2012 event and look at the photos of collapsed tents, etc. The wind then removed the "star" from "star party" but the "party" part remained.

Google Earth/Google Maps is not showing me exactly where Pinto Drive is - although I've previewed the roads through Google's Street View.

In the opening post in the thread you'll find lat/long coordinates for the mouth of Pinto Drive. You can move the mouse around on Google Earth to match up the coordinates.

The white spot in the center of this map (google link) is Mike's pop-up trailer parked in the middle of the observing site. Zoom out from here to see your route.

p.s. -- in Spring it's all green, except for the wildflowers. (Don't eat the Death Camas! Bwahahah . . . )

Hi, everyone! Happy Springtime!

We're very much in sympathy with Mike Bieler's difficulties encountered in attempting to upgrade the CN forum software. I sure hope it works out, with a minimum of wasted $$$.

It's apparent, however, that upcoming changes may result in this site being down when there's a need to exchange information concerning the G/dale SP. A couple of wise souls, accustomed apparently to strategic thinking, have suggested that it might be prudent to have an alternate mode of communication in place for those monitoring plans for this May star party. With that in mind I propose the following:

Anyone who inhabits this thread who wants to share their email address with me and with all other such persons should send me their email address via PM. I will compile a group email address which will broadcast to everyone expressing their interest. I emphasize that not only I, but all others who participate will have everyone's email address. Even if I know you intend to attend the SP and I already have your email address I won't include you in the group mailing unless you contact me and tell me you want to be included.

This CN thread will remain the place to share information, not the email group. I don't intend to use the email much, perhaps not at all, so long as CN remains available as the primary source. But having it in reserve is a reasonable belt-and-suspenders approach.

I'm open to suggestions how to improve on this idea!

Well, the holiday is the Monday before....(May 26th, Memorial Day)hence my statement. I know how the rotation works, and I always seem to get the weekly On Call when a holiday pops up.

Edit: I just went through looking at the rotation and guess what? I was right....On Call for the week of May 26th through June 2nd.

Everyone have fun!

I have just ignited a test firing of the first Group Email Backup Delivery System. (See my 3/23 post.) I sent an email to the people named below. I want to make sure everyone who wants to be on the backup is on it and that I've assembled the list correctly, so: (1) If your name appears below but you didn't receive the email, please tell me; and (2) If you want to be on the list but your name doesn't appear below, then PM me your email address & I'll add you to the list. Otherwise I'll assume those below received the email, so there's no point in telling me you got it. Now, I think I sent it to the following people:

Ajay
SweetAnne
Brad
Cliff
Len
Mike G.
Ram
Ray
Ron
Ryan
Stacy
Steve G.
Steve Ros.
Square Tom

Bob, thanks for spreading the word. I'd be grateful if you'd add a line to your web site announcement, requesting that people not arrive after dark.

Do you think you'll come by? I'd like to say hi in person.
