Re: Email list.

I've been much occupied with out-of-town house guests and work, so I haven't dealt with the list since the Test Firing. However, I know there are some problems to be worked out. Please be patient with the hired help.

OK, the Second Test Firing of the first Group Email Backup Delivery System has happened. (See my 3/23 post.) I sent an email to the people named below. I want to make sure everyone who wants to be on the backup is on it and that I've assembled the list correctly, so: (1) If your name appears below but you didn't receive the email, please tell me; and (2) If you want to be on the list but your name doesn't appear below, then PM me your email address & I'll add you to the list. I've corrected or replaced a couple of addresses. I've also (accidentally) deleted the whole thing and rebuilt it, so please let me know if you didn't get it.

Now, I think I sent it to the following people:

Ajay
SweetAnne
Brad
Cliff
Len
Mike G.
Ram
Ray
Ron
Ryan
Stacy
Steve G.
Steve Ros.
Square Tom

I got it!

At first I was a bit confused when I opened it!

Sorry it has taken a while - I've been working on a project with Warner Bros. Television.

ROFL

Years ago I was told I should be a voice actor, but nah. :P

I did some 3D modeling and 3D marine vessel design for a TV show being set in Seattle.

To be specific, I modeled half the fleet of Washington State Ferries in 3D form.

This is one of them - a model of the ferry Kaleetan.

Dumb questions: What's 3D modeling? Do you build a tangible model or is it all computer generated? Is Kaleetan a genuine WA ferry (never heard of it before.)No matter your answers, *looks* like a real ferry!

The Kaleetan is a real ferry - the actual vessel is seen here in a photo I took in 2011:

With respect to 3D modeling - it's a computer-generated 3D model done in SketchUp, which is a 3D CAD-type program.

The same 3D model of the Kaleetan is also being used on KIRO Television's morning traffic maps.

Nice work Steve.

Mike you should ask Angela next time you meet up for D&D. She has done some 3-d models of dragon flies. She used "Blender" a linux based program to create these and to animate them.

Ajay

Hi Mike, I added the after dark arrival caveat to the link caption... Yes, I definitely will try and make it by to say hi!

Steve, I'm seriously impressed!

Ajay, I'll ask her about it but with me there's always the possibility that I'll forget to ask. Would you please ask her to bring it up? Thanks, sorry, etc.

Bob, thank you much. "Yes, I definitely will try and make it by to say hi!" . . . and stay a while! It would be extremely difficult for anyone arriving for the first time after dark to do so without illuminating everything and everyone. Not so tough once a guy knows the route. If you decide to stay and view for a while I'll show you where to park for a no-impact departure. I'm looking forward to meeting you and anyone else you dredge up! (Incidentally, I really like your avatar.)

PS, Anne told me over the weekend that she will get the Friday before the SP off; coupled with her usual Thursday off, she'll get a 4 day weekend out of it! Would others please make sure that she won't the the only non-astro wife there? You hear me, Stacy?

There may or may not be a chance that I might have to unfortunately bow out of this, unless I can raise sufficient revenue to buy a replacement camera.

My Nikon D5100 decided to throw me a curveball yesterday - threw up an error that I cannot fix, and the problem has disabled all but manual mode - which is even then still a bit crippled.

I will keep everyone involved in this event apprised of the situation as time draws near.

Gosh Steve, if you just show up without a camera you might have to violate your personal convictions and actually look through telescopes or binoculars or something. If you lower yourself to that sorry state you can be sure that I won't tell.

Plus there are so many more things to see and do! Day trips to Oregon. Goldendale Observatory. Blue eggs from the neighbors. Wonderful mountain views. Solar viewing. Sometimes there is airplane rides. Potluck! Throwing up on your binoculars. Video Kite Flying. Impromptu jam sessions. Flying tents! RC Gliders. Cookies from Cliff. Hot soup and latte's from Stacy.
