Thanks guys! A friend is making a LTVT-version (Lunar Terminator Visualization Tool) of the Pilolaus sketch. It works fine with images, but no idea it works well with sketches too?

very nice Jef.
The images appear to show changing libration to me too. That is that the moon appears to have rolled downwards slightly each evening, having the effect of spreading the details out.

or is it just me?

Jef,

The LTVT is the best moon planning (or reconstructing ) tool Ive ever used. I wish it were a little easier to set up . Some folks simply didnt bother installing it because its kind of roundabout to get it all up and running. It IS a fantastic tool however.

Pete

So here the LTVT-version of the sketch. It worked out all fine. I put some Lunar Orbiter images as comparison.

@ Chris & Pete: I'll look for the changing libration later.

Chris & Pete, I made some time to look for the information. Libration in latitude was (1) +03°43', (2) +04°52' and (3) +05°47'. Libration in longitude was (1) +04°59', (2) +03°46' and (3) +02°44'. Three screenshots from VMA to visualise the scene.

Jef, I think that agrees pretty well with your sketch. Cool!
