M82 Supernova Images new
      #6345839 - 01/30/14 07:15 PM Attachment (43 downloads)

Ok... Here is my image. 47 minutes of 2 minute exposures.

Reviewing a single 2 minute frame at 1600 ISO on the back of my DSLR there was no mistaking the supernova. It is bright. If you can get out and image, now is the time. I think it's at peak.

Paul, you were right as evidenced from my image at the top.

It was pinched optics and not guiding. My image was taken unguided with 2 minute exposures. No more heart shaped stars after loosening the retainers on the AT65.

Glad you got that sorted out Sean, must have been very frustrating, not to mention annoying.

I find it amazing that a seemingly solid piece of glass can be affected so much by retention pressure? But, it is, and you got it dialed out very nicely.

Regards...Paul

Here's mine from 1/29 I think it was at peak then. Anyway it was terribly cold and my stuff wasn't working 100% but I made them most of it.

Here is my first quick pass at the image. I mangled the processing and stacking, but would love to share it before I try to make improvements.

Here's mine from 1/29-30. 24x300s + 49x180s in the AT6RC at ~f/7. This is as good as it gets for me at this point.

I posted this originally in another thread, not knowing of the existence of this one. I've seen reprocessed it as I had the color balance all wrong.

Anyway, for posterity, here is mine. C8 at f/6.3. 50x120s ISO 1600. January 31.

And here is a comparison with a similar image made two years earlier.
