M82 + SN2014J with a 120mm refractor new
      #6347295 - 01/31/14 02:05 PM Attachment (55 downloads)

On the evening of January 29, I finally got the first opportunity to look at the supernova in M82. The sky was very transparant so a lot of detail in M82 could be seen. I hadn't observered much with this telecope lately, but while my bigger scopes are "under construction" I was pleasantly surprised about what this relatively small telescope showed of the galaxy.

The supernova was immediately obvious, I estimated its brightness being approximately m11.1.

The sketch is made with a graphite pencil on white paper, inverted using Photoshop.

that's a very realistic result Roel,

nice dust lanes.

do you have access to a bigger scope? I would like to see your impression of the colour of the SN.

What a lovely sketch. With realistic results such as this I often tend to close one eye and move closer to my screen and cup my hands around the FOV, to get a feel for what the observer saw. Great result.

Wow, Roel, this is superb! One of the best SN2014J sketches I've seen.

Excellent sketch Roel! I am also observing with a 120mm, and that's how it looks at the eyepiece. Very good!

Wow, great eyepiece view--newbies should be directed here if they want a realistic idea of what to expect when looking for M82 and the SN.
